Mexican Pointy Boots were first invented in a dusty northern Mexican town called Matehuala, about a year ago (April 2010). The fashion was started by dancing to tribal music originally started by the Bellavista Dance Crew. To start with people were dancing with normal boots, but the boots got pointier and pointier until they were out of control. It turned into a bit of a competition.
A lot of the dancers made the boots themselves or got local shoemakers to adapt standard boots with lengths of hose, foam and strips of leather and shaped them and fixed with screws. The latest fashion of another dance crew called The Barrio Apache Hyphy Crew is to wear the boots together with skinny jeans, so that the boots are easily highlighted.
There are many different sizes, shapes, patterns and colors of pointy boots.
The boot makers started producing longer and longer boots, and nearby ranches started to watch and then began competing with them. The Barrio Apache Hyphy Crew wouldn't let others beat them so they doubled the size of their boots overnight and ended up making them over 7 feet long.
The music they dance to with the boots are tribal mixes of pre-hispanic and african sounds with cumbia basslines known as Tribal Guarachero.
The tribal movement was born in Mexico City around the turn of the century.
The Los Parranderos Dance crew started a new trend by wearing matching outfits to go with the pointy boots and performing in tribal dance competitions. They won several competitions and their rivals were envious of them and started to copy them.
They soon started adapting the boots for different occassions such as halloween and painted and crafted designs on the pointy boots accordingly.
The boots are quoted to be babe magnets by some of the local mexicans, as the girls cheer the guys on as they are dancing and competing in clubs while wearing their boots.
The boots hit the online media around 1st April 2011 and a lot of people thought they were an April Fool joke.
The initial reaction from blog comments was mainly of disbelief and ridicule. However, each to their own as they are bound to catch on in the near future and begin to spread around US clubs. Don't be surprised if you soon find Mexican Pointy Boots for Sale in a shop near you - or online - probably Amazon.
